The Wise Men

wise-men-3

In Christian tradition the Three Wise Men, Three Kings or Kings from the East are said to have visited Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts. They are mentioned only in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 2) , which says that they came “from the east to Jerusalem” to worship the Christ, “born King of the Jews”.

Many different theories of the meaning and symbolism of the gifts have been advanced, they are all ordinary gifts for a king — myrrh being commonly used as an anointing oil, frankincense as a perfume, and gold as a valuable.

Nowadays, on January the sixth, the day is celebrated like a day to give gifts and presents to the others, and in some places with a great parade to remember the visit of the wise men to the Messiah
